Combination of art, technology and efficiency.

The design values of Daniel Rybakken meet the vision of Alias.

At the Salone del Mobile.Milano 2024, Alias marks its collaboration with Daniel Rybakken, a Scandinavian designer invited to contribute to the brand's values. Born in Oslo in 1984, Daniel Rybakken studied design at the Oslo School of Architecture and the School of Arts & Crafts in Gotenborg - Sweden, where he opened his studio in 2008. His work lies between art and design, seeking to create something elegant; not necessarily visual elegance, but an elegant solution to a problem.

Daniel Rybakken's essential approach to design is reflected in his two designs for Alias: the height-adjustable table Nastro and the chair Lira. The Norwegian designer combines a rigorous selection of materials and forms with an analogue way of thinking about the everyday use of products. The two collections show that innovation is not always technological, but can come from simplicity and the recombination of old forms, materials and traditional knowledge to create Something Else.

Traditional techniques and materials such as wood, aluminium and steel are used in Nastro and Lira; their combination leads to the creation of exclusive collections, different from what the market offers. With Nastro, Daniel Rybakken reconsiders the concept of a height adjustable table, defining a unique product, ideal for different contexts. Using a toothed belt, it provides an easy and intuitive way to manage the height of the table top, without the need for electricity.

Lira is the result of a meticulous design process in which a strong, minimalist character is combined with unexpected comfort, guaranteed by the deep curvature of the backrest. An essential, easily stackable chair with an iconic silhouette that formally reflects its name. Nastro and Lira are two projects that demonstrate how good design can be created from simple yet thoughtful shapes.
