Alias' Spaghetti armrest in the residence of the Italian Ambassador in London
Italian design and tradition come together at Grosvenor Square: Alias' Spaghetti armrest in the residence of the Italian Ambassador in London.
Curated by Nick Vinson in collaboration with Avanti Architects, the renovation project for the Italian Ambassador's residence in Grosvenor Square, 4, London, blends historical character with the best of Italian design heritage. The renovated interiors, located on the second and third floors of a historic building originally constructed in 1868 and last renovated in the 1930s by Wellsley & Will, reflect a contemporary vision rooted in tradition. With the aim of combining tradition and modernity, highlighting the elegance of the building without sacrificing a contemporary
imprint that reflects the excellence of Italian design, Nick Vinson chose to maintain the existing character, adding new elements that dialogue with the building's features and its connection to Italy. By shaping each room, Vinson has created a showcase for Italian excellence, a contemporary expression of Italian furniture and design. The project, commissioned by Ambassador Inigo Lambertini and supported by Councillor Federico Balsani, blends a restored heritage with bold colours, bespoke fabrics and works of art by modern
and contemporary Italian artists that interact with furnishings from over 50 Italian brands. Among these, Alias contributed with one of its iconic pieces designed by Giandomenico Belotti: the Spaghetti armrest (1980), a synthesis of functionality and formal research, welcomes guests in an elegant dining room, where historical flavour blends with the contemporary style of this timeless chair. Alias is honoured to be part of this project, which conveys the image of Italy to the world and reflects the vitality and innovation of our country.
